Play Patrol floor staff members play an integral role in the success of the Museum’s mission. You will contribute to the overall visitor experience by facilitating exhibits, interacting with guests, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. You will improve your workplace skills by quickly learning new content and being able to adapt to changing situations. As Play Patrol staff, you will assist other museum employees to ensure guests enjoy a space that allows interactive play and silly smart fun!

Play Patrol members will work alongside Playologists in order to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for visitors. You will report to the Visitor Services Coordinator and interact frequently with other management staff. Team interaction may include:

  • Assisting Playologists with birthday parties and programming such as annual Easter Egg-stravaganza

  • Communicating with management about any problems with exhibits or museum maintenance

  • At least 15 years of age

  • Enthusiastic personality

  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills

  • Self-motivated and flexible

  • Outstanding verbal communication skills

  • Experience working with children and families preferred

  • Prior customer service experience preferred

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills


  • Weekend and summer availability

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time

  • Must be able to function and thrive in a fast-paced and loud environment with youth

  • Job requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, and bending

  • Job requires a high degree of interaction and engagement with others, including children and families

  • Attention to detail

You will develop a variety of different skills as a Play Patrol member at the Children’s Museum. Your daily responsibilities will help to improve your customer relations skills and you will gain valuable knowledge about how a non-profit organization functions. 

  • Inform guests of museum layout and policies, events, activities, and exhibits

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of museum guests

  • Keep museum spaces tidy

  • Assist exhibit and programming staff

  • Engage museum visitors in exhibits and activities

  • Participate in interdepartmental collaboration and training
