Opportunity
As a Playologist at the Children’s Museum of La Crosse you will have the unique opportunity to celebrate play every day! Playologists are integral in living out our mission to help the young and young at heart learn, connect, and grow through interactive play. You will learn valuable skills as a guest service provider while also building relationships with member families and guests. Your involvement in the Children’s Museum community will allow visitors to make meaningful memories as you work with a team that has a passion for play, values community, and is committed to working together to promote learning through playing.

 

Team
Playologists work with many other important members of our team to provide the best experience for museum visitors. You will collaborate with other employees to ensure a fun work environment for all. This will include:

  • Coordinating with other Playologists to ensure the facility stays well maintained
  • Guaranteeing guests come into a welcoming, clean, and safe environment
  • Assisting floor staff with cleaning tasks
  • Communicating with management to ensure programs, birthday parties, rentals, and daily museum activities run smoothly

Qualifications

  • Customer service experience
  • High energy and enthusiastic personality
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Basic computer skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • General knowledge of Children’s Museums and/or non-profit organizations preferred
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills

Requirements

  • Must have weekend availability
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on Museum attendance, programming, and events
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Job requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, and bending
  • Job requires a high degree of interaction and engagement with others, including children and families
  • Must be able to function and thrive in a fast-paced and loud environment with youth

Responsibilities
Your role as a Playologist will facilitate growth in a variety of relevant work-related skills as well as provide you the opportunity to obtain new skills to add to your resume. Playologists will:

  • Check-in guests through museum management software
  • Build customer relations skills
  • Maintain a safe environment for members and guests
  • Improve problem-solving by assisting guests
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks
  • Facilitate birthday parties and other museum programs
